This wedding is a true testament to the old saying, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade!” This is exactly what Stevie and Blake did when they discovered that their already below-average wedding budget would be sliced in half – after all, they had found their dream Newlywed cottage and they needed a down payment. With a deposit already paid to the lovely Citizen Hotel, a fabulous vintage boutique hotel located in the heart of midtown Sacramento, they worked out every little detail of their budget with their wedding planner and designer Kate Miller of Kate Miller Events to ensure that their guests would enjoy the same fun details that they had planned to incorporate, but on their newly downsized budget.
Luckily, they were able to enlist the help of many very talented family members. Kate Miller Events provided the paper goods that were then incorporated into DIY Drink Flags for their Signature Lemonade beverage, Dessert Table Signs, and Placesetting Monograms. Non-floral Crystal and Candle Centerpieces created ambiance with the glow of candlelight. The personal flowers were created with the help of Stevie’s truly talented mother Jamie, who incorporated ranunculus, crespedia, and peonies with beautiful vintage velvet ribbon into bouquets for the bride and bridesmaids and boutonnieres for the groom and groomsmen. A guestbook quilt allowed guests to personalize their own signature square that would later be sewn into an heirloom quilt by Stevie’s Aunt – and treasured for years to come.
To save money, they held their ceremony later in the evening and removed the ceremony chairs to reveal the dancefloor. Grange, The Citizen Hotel’s on-site restaurant and caterer, served guests delicious comfort food like Mini Kobe Sliders, Tomato Soup Shooters Topped with Mini Grilled Cheese, yummy Local Crudite and a Mashed Potato Martini Bar with all the fixins. If there was room left for cake, a Dessert Buffet was set with five flavors of Ettore’s delicious cakes artfully arranged on borrowed cake stands lovingly collected from Stevie and Blake’s friends and family. Mini Candy Buffets were set on the ends to allow guests to take home a favor of sweet treats. After a fun night of snacking and dancing, guests tossed furry pom poms served in DIY doily cups during their grand farewell.
